The African publishing industry
faces significant challenges in representing diverse voices,
experiences and perspectives. The lack of diversity in published works
perpetuates harmful stereotypes, excludes marginalized communities, and
limits the industry's growth. The Alba network curated Equity
Guidelines for Publishing, and in partnership with Neuroscience and
European Journal of Neuroscience, we are proposing to hold a workshop
to identify and address challenges faced by neuroscience researchers
working in low-to-middle income countries (LMICs) and to advocate for
an inclusive and equitable publishing ecosystem. The workshop will be
facilitated by experiences publishing professionals (Editors-in-Chief
of either journal), DEI experts and industry through leaders Proposed
program with duration of 90 min: 1- Opening remarks and introductions-Session Chairs 2- Benefits of publishing in Society Journals (EIC Neuroscience/EJN) 3- The publishing gap- (Challenges and opportunities) forLMIC researchers 4- Round table discussion- (Challenges and opportunities) forLMIC 5- Round table discussion- Strategies for inclusive publishing 6- Conclusions and closing remarks |
